Vegetables to Sow in August & Reminder to Pre-Order Your Onions & Garlic
It’s August and there’s still time to sow Vegetables to eat before Winter in December and there’s still time to sow seeds to bag a Spring Harvest.
Also now is the time to Pre-order your Onion Sets & Garlic Online (if you are in the UK) ready to plant in November to Harvest July & August next year.

Top Tip ! Many online retailers sell out of the ever popular Elephant Garlic where each individual clove is the size of a normal bulb of garlic. It is a mild tasting garlic and I intend to grow it this year so I’m pre-ordering it!
Seeds to Sow in August for a Spring Harvest
- Spring Cabbage – Varieties: April, Greyhound, Durham Early.
- Kale – Varieties to Sow: Nero di Toscana, Migdnight Sun, Dwarf Green Curled, Red Russian, Hungry Gap.
- Carrots – Varieties to Sow: Marion F1, autumn king 2, Eskimo F1.
- Onions – Overwintering Seeds to Sow: Senshyu Yellow, Alisa Craig. harvest in June.

Seeds to Sow in August for an Autumn Harvest
- Kohl Rabi – a German cabbage – Varieties to Sow: White or red.
- Chard – Varieties to Sow: Any but Rainbow Lights are the prettiest.
- Florence Fennel – Varieties to Choose: Romanesco.
- Chicory – Varieties to Sow: Radicchio.
- Winter Lettuce – Varieties to Sow: All year round, arctic king.
- Oriental Veg – Chinese cabbage, pak Choi, mustard leaves.
- Radish and Winter Radish.
- Spring Onions – Varieties to Sow: Winter Hardy White Lisbon.
- Spinach – Varieties to Sow: giant winter, matador, banjo or Perpetual Spinach.
- Potatoes – Buy Tubers in July and Early August and plant in large containers for a Christmas Harvest.
- Cauliflower – Autumn – Sow in July or August for harvest December or January. Variety: Bola de Nieve
