Create a Vegetable Garden Plan on Canva (Free Version)
Canva is the number one easy to use platform for designing your Vegetable Garden Plan.
Whilst it is not specifically for designing vegetable gardens, it is still setup for non tech savvy people to easily create their own designs.
I love Canva, so I’m going to show you how easy it is to create your own vegetable garden plan.

What is a Vegetable Garden Plan?

A Vegetable Garden Plan is a plan of where you are going to grow your vegetables.
If you have raised beds, containers or an allotment bed, a plan would be a diagram of what you will be planting in each raised bed.
Your vegetable plan can be simple or detailed, it’s up to you.
I like to do two plans, one for January to June and another plan for July to December.
July is the time of the year you can sow seeds for Autumn and Winter so it seems right to draw up another plan for the next two seasons.
If you are a beginner, thinking it’s all a bit complicated, then start with the Basic Veg Garden plan below and work your way up the levels, when you are more confident.
Basic Veg Garden Plans
A Basic Vegetable Garden plan is drawing your raised bed shapes on a piece of paper.
Then add blocks of vegetables to each raised bed shape. It doesn’t have to be to scale, you just need a rough plan.

How much Space does a Vegetable need?
Good question! A carrot will need less room than a Courgette plant.

How to Create a Veg Garden Plan on Canva
1. Firstly you will need to sign up for a free account on Canva.
2. Click on ‘Create a Design’

3. Choose A4 Document (portrait) or Landscape if you prefer.
4. Type ‘Rectangle’ or ‘Square’ depending on what shape your Raised Beds are into the ‘Elements’ Search bar (next to the magnifying glass).

5. Choose your shape by clicking on it. I’ve chosen a Rectangle out of the Graphics Section.

6. With you mouse, click on the white dots in the corners to stretch out or back in again, to make the size of your raised bed on the page. You can have one raised bed per page or put them all on one page.
I’m going to be putting 4 rectangles down the left hand side of my page so I can write what’s in them down the right hand side.
7. Click on the ‘Plus Document’ icon next to the bin icon above your shape. This will duplicate the same shape again and again. I have clicked on the ‘Plus Document’ 3 times to get my 4 raised beds.

8. I now need to move the rectangles into position, I do this by clicking with the noise into the middle of each shape and dragging them down the page into position. You can also use the cross symbol to move the items.

9. I’m now going to add my heading. Click on the word ‘Text’ in the left side column. Choose ‘Add a Heading’. Then type your words.

10. Now I’m going to Add a Title next to each of my rectangle shapes. Click on the word ‘Text’ in the left side column. Choose ‘Add a SubHeading’. Then type your words.

11. Now I’m going to start adding the pictures of vegetables to the bed as an illustration of what I’ll be growing in them this year.
Click on the word ‘Elements’ on the left side column. Then type in the vegetable you want to find in the Search Bar. I’ve put in Onions.
A list of graphics, photos etc will appear for onions.
Anything with a Crown icon and the word Pro means you have to pay for it. Stick to finding graphics or photos without the crown logo for the free version.
I’ve clicked on an Onion Graphic and then made it small by using the corner white dots to drag it to make it smaller. This will now fit into my rectangle Raised Bed.

12. Repeat Number 11 for all the vegetables you want to add to your raised beds. Resize and Position them where you want them.

13. Finally I have added a block of Text under the SubHeading’s ‘Raised Bed’ to list what is being planted.
To do this, Click on the word ‘Text’ in the left side column. Choose ‘Add a little bit of body text ’. Position the text box where you want it and then type your words.
14. To transfer your photo out of Canva and into your Photos. Click on ‘Share’ at the top right of the screen. Click ‘Save As’ and then ‘Download’. You can choose a folder to save this in at this point if you wish. By clicking the download button, this will have put your photo into your Photos program.
You can now print it or have it saved on your phone to reference to again when you start planting.

My Vegetable Garden Plans
- Year 2025 – This year the Peas are back including Mange Tout. I’m also growing an interesting summer squash, and mini water melons in the greenhouse.
- Year 2024 – Companion planting with carrots, parsnips and onions. Not a good year for Pumpkins or courgettes as it was so wet.
- Year 2021 (Old Veg Garden) – Tomatoes outdoors protected by the Marigolds Ring of Steel to protect from aphids.
